Getting ready for Bike-to-Work Week – Chris’ Bike Trailer
April 30, 2010 3 Comments
Since Bike-to-Work Week (May 17-21, part of National Bike Month) is coming up soon, we thought we’d relate a bike-commuting dilemma that Chris, one of our bike distributors and a Performance blog contributor, faced today.
Chris commutes, almost every day, on his trusty older model Scattante XRL Cross bike. Of course he rode in today, but his dilemma was this: a coworker asked him to go for a mountain bike ride this weekend, but Chris had no mountain bike at home (don’t ask–this is not normal). So what’s a guy to do? Well, how about rig up a 29″ mountain bike-towing trailer out of a B.O.B. Ibex trailer and a Thule Insta-Gater Truck Rack:
After much zip-tying and some minor modifications, the bike-towing trailer was ready to roll. At this point we are obliged to insert the disclaimer that we truly don’t recommend trying this at home, as it undoubtedly voids any sort of warranty on the products involved, and we don’t want anyone to get injured trying out this admittedly improvised creation. But hey, Chris wanted to get his mountain bike home, so he thought he’d give it a whirl. Here’s some video of the contraption in action in our parking lot:
We hope this gets you inspired for National Bike Month, just maybe in a more conventional fashion (say, by riding with one bike at a time)!

HHmmmmm. That 9r you’re towing around (down right hilarious by the way) looks like that carbon GT which might be in the works for the future?! Blink once for yes.
Definitely not a GT, but you will be able to buy it from Performance next year. It’s a very cool bike, and we hope to have more to tell about it very soon.
Usually I do not read article on blogs, but I wish to say that this write-up very pressured me to try and do it! Your writing taste has been amazed me. Thanks, very great article.
