Community Events: Looking Back at October

Every month, our over 100 stores support or host many great cycling events, in addition to their regularly scheduled Spin Doctor clinics & group rides, so we wanted to take a moment to recognize just a few of the events that our folks in the field were involved with in October.

Our Columbus, OH store helped out at an elementary school bike rodeo, as part of Ohio’s “Wear Your Bike Helmet to Work or School Day”.

Our team had a blast fixing and tuning up all kinds of bikes for the over 70 kids who showed up for the event!

Here’s our team in the little down time that they had, in between working on bikes and handing out water bottles.

The event was such a success that they scheduled 2 more events with 2 different scout groups over the next 2 months.

Our Boulder, CO store hosted a book signing with USA Cycling Coach John Hughes, author of “Distance Cycling.”

John Hughes has completed the Race Across America and multiple Paris-Brest-Paris events, one of the oldest and longest cycling events (it’s still 1200km, with a time limit of 90 hours)! He is the former Director of the Ultra Marathon Cycling Association, and his book is full of tips on how to prepare yourself for some long days in the saddle.

Our Bonita, CA store was recognized by the Chula Vista Clean Business program for their efforts to reduce waste, prevent pollution, and conserve energy and water.

Spin Doctor Roger Guzman and Store Manager Greg Heath manned a tent at an event celebrating the Clean Business program, and shared their success with the community.

Our Broadway Tucson, AZ store was the exclusive bike shop for the “Tumacacori Century Gene Chapman Memorial Ride”.

The weather was beautiful for this ride through the Arizona desert, and Store Manager Margarita Selden and Spin Doctor mechanic Bryan Zittlosen enjoyed meeting the riders at our tent.

We did free service checks on bikes and handed out nutrition samples to the over 200 plus riders at this great fall event.

Finally, an array of folks from our Colorado stores showed up for the Denver Veloswap.

The VeloSwap is the world’s largest consumer bicycling and sports expo, where you can buy, sell, re-cycle anything cycling-related. Visitors packed the Performance Bicycle booth for our giveaways and a chance to win some of our great prizes!  Here’s a video that shows you what the VeloSwap scene is like:
