Here at Performance Bicycle we are proud to introduce our first elite women’s cycling team:
In a partnership with SpokesWomen Syndicate, an organization dedicated to getting more women into the sport of cycling, the Performance Bicycle Racing Team is set to make its debut for the 2010 season.
The Performance Bicycle Racing Team is an elite women’s cycling team, composed of women who have reached USA cycling category 1 or 2 status. The 2010 Performance Bicycle Racing Team is made up of cyclists Cara Applegate, Evie Boswell-Vilt, Kirsten Davis, Kathryn Okenatez-Mahoney, Chris Tommerdahl, Dana Treiber Martin, Nicole Vincent-Jordan, Gina Voci and Bergen Watterson. The team is supported by professional mentors and development team leaders Annie Lux, Ainhoa Perez-Diez and Hadley Trotter. Primarily focused on road bike racing, the team also includes top and professional level mountain bike, triathlete and cyclocross riders as well.
So why are we sponsoring a women’s team? Here are a few words from our chief executive officer, Jim Thompson, talking about our goals with the team:
Performance can’t wait to be part of the professional circuit. The Performance Bicycle Racing Team has put in an intense winter of training and is coming out of camp strong. This is an accomplished team of women with whom we share a common goal—getting more women to discover the enjoyment of cycling. The Performance Bicycle Racing Team features individuals who are committed to making a name for themselves on the bike and off as medical doctors, professional researchers, full-time students, a professional triathlete and business professionals. We are proud to support their dreams and to be associated with the SpokesWomen Syndicate.
This team is about much more than just competition. It’s also about setting goals, sharing expertise and nurturing a passion for cycling within the larger community of female cyclists. Team members will provide expert tips on training, riding, bike selection, bike setup, nutrition, and much more throughout the racing season and beyond. And according to Laura Seay, co-founder and president of the SpokesWomen Syndicate, our sponsorship is a great fit for their team:
The biggest asset of the Performance Bicycle sponsorship is the support and enthusiasm they provide for women who love to race bicycles. The best female cyclists have full time jobs and families to support. Having Performance as our title sponsor enables our elite members to focus more on their training, their professional lives and their families, while giving them a national support system to encourage and promote their dedication to the sport.
Look for the Performance team at National Racing Calendar (NRC) and regional events all over the country. They are currently scheduled for the following races: Sunny King Criterium, Speed Week, Wilmington Grand Prix, Kelly Cup, Tour of Somerville, Nature Valley, Fitchburg, Presbyterian Hospital Hanes Park and the US 10K.
On the road you will see the team riding and racing on Fuji Supreme SL Women’s Road Racing Bikes, featuring a C-10 monocoque carbon frameset, new Shimano Ultegra SL components and Mavic Ksyrium SL wheels:
And you won’t be able to miss their stylish Louis Garneau race apparel at the races, along with their Louis Garneau Diamond Road Helmets and Louis Garneau Women’s Revo XR Road Shoes which complete their kit:
When they’re putting in the base training miles, the team will wear race-inspired Performance apparel, including the Performance Women’s Ultra Short Sleeve Jersey and the Performance Women’s Ultra Bike Short, and will stay hydrated with Nuun hydration products.
