Best Bikes for Commuting

This May we’re celebrating National Bike Month – that time of year where we feel extra motivated to get people jazzed about bikes and encourage everyone to get out and ride. The weather is finally starting to warm up and Summer is right around the corner.

With that in mind, the following are our top bikes for the cornerstone of our cycling community: The Commuter.

Breezer Greenway

If you haven’t test driven an e-bike yet, get to your local Performance Bike Shop now, because you’re missing out. The Greenway’s smart frame design will satisfy all your commuting needs – only with the added benefit of a powerful boost of clean energy to rocket you up hills and across town. Both the Greenway and Greenway LS ,with convenient step-through frame design, feature a Shimano STEPS pedal assist system, Suntour NEX suspension fork, and 10-speed drivetrain. Comfort, speed and function are all rolled up into one, for a commuting experience that offers a whole lot of fun, with very little effort on your part.

Marin Nicasio RC

Fully equipped for all-weather city riding, the Nicasio RC is geared to go full utility, with features like front and rear fenders, rack mounts, Shimano hydraulic disc brakes and a Nexus 8-speed internally geared rear hub. But, unlike other commuters, the Nicasio RC has the added benefit of plus size, WTB Horizon 650B tires. These bad boys will boost your confidence to roll over any type of terrain and get you where you need to go, fast.

Fuji Jari 2.5

I own this one – and I love it. I pretty much tell anyone who will listen, if you can only own one bike, get a Jari. While it’s designed for gravel riding, it makes a great commuter. Want to go faster? Just slap on some slick tires and you’re good to go. The toptube is angled just right to take the pressure off the lower back, yet still give you some aero ability for those long miles. Features rack mounts, 3 water bottle mounts and even a bento-box mount to store all your stuff. It’s light, it’s fun, it’s downright durable. Great for gnarly, rough-riding folks who have a long commute ahead of them.

Fuji Absolute 1.9

The Fuji Absolute is our bestselling bike, with everything you need for a successful commute – like rack and fender mounts, disc brakes and wide range gearing, the Absolute is designed to meet the demands and expectations of the everyday commuter. In addition to a custom butted, lightweight aluminum frame, with comfortable, upright geometry, the 1.9 and 1.9 ST – with convenient step-thru frame design – feature a Shimano Tourney 8-speed drivetrain, Tektro mechanical disc brakes, and Vera CityWide 700x32c tires, for an excellent balance of design, function and value, all rolled into one.

Fuji Sagres & Cambridge

For the price, you can’t beat the style and comfort of Fuji’s Nichibei Collection. The Sagres and Cambridge pay homage to Fuji’s Japanese-American roots, and are designed with features found on traditional Japanese commuter bikes. Built on a sturdy, steel frame and fork, these bikes come stock with fenders and chainguard, 7-speed drivetrains, and easy-to-use thumb shifters.

We hope these bikes offer some inspiration and incentive to get out on a ride. It doesn’t take much to feel the benefits of riding a bike – even a trip around the neighborhood can work wonders to your frame of mind. Enjoy the ride, and May the 4th be with you.
