Eurobike Update: Fuji Altamira CX 1.1

We’re on the ground at Eurobike this week with our friends from Bicycling Magazine! There are so many great things to talk about, and we’ll try to cover a few interesting things over the next few days!

Here’s the latest by Bicycling:

Fuji’s Altamira CX 1.1 is Ready For Your Call-Up

This cyclocross bike is no sedate gravel tourer; it’s bred and built for the race course.

Racing cyclocross with any success means counting on your gear. Fuji’s Altamira CX 1.1 is a proven performer. It’s also a rare breed. Complete cyclocross bikes often need a few tweaks to be truly race-worthy. Not the Altamira.

The heart of the Altamira is the 950-gram C10 carbon fiber frame, with a BB86 oversize bottrom bracket, direct-mount disc brakes and through-axle wheel mounts. The top tube is flattened on the underside for a comfortable carry on steep runups. The boxy downtube and stout seatstays provide efficient power transfer to get you back up to speed after hairpins and chicanes. Internal cable routing keeps shifting cleaner and crisper in nasty conditions, and helps make for quick cleaning at the power washing station after your ride.

The Altamira also shines with a premium build, including a  SRAM Force 1x drivetrain, hydraulic disc brakes, and a Quarq Prime carbon fiber crankset that can be converted to a power meter with the DZero Power Meter Spider.

But the real value is in the wheelset. Unlike many bikes at its price, the Altamira comes with tubulars: Oval Concept’s light, 40mm-deep 935 Disc carbon tubulars, shod with Challenge Baby Limus tires. No clincher setup can match tubulars for cornering ability and flat resistance at low pressures, which makes this type of setup a favorite for cyclocross racers and riders alike.

The total package is just 16.7 pounds, which you’ll appreciate as you suitcase it over the barriers with one lap to go. It’s offered in five sizes to fit almost every rider in every field.

Caption: Not many cyclocross bikes are race-ready right out of the box, but Fuji’s Altamira CX 1.1 needs zero tweaks for race day.

The Altamira CX 1.1 comes with a SRAM Force 1x drivetrain, but the frame is set up to handle a 2x system if you ever want to switch.

Nothing beats the SRAM Force hydraulic disc brakes for controlled stopping power in any conditions.

Fuji picks the excellent Challenge Baby Limus tubular, a supple, sure-handling tire with a grippy tread that hooks up in almost all conditions.
